etāvān eva loke ’smin puṁsāṁ niḥśreyasodayaḥ tīvreṇa bhakti-yogena mano mayy arpitaṁ sthiram
Synonyms etāvān—so far; eva—only; loke asmin—in this material world; puṁsām—of the living entities; niḥśreyasa—ultimate perfection; udayaḥ—development; tīvreṇa—intense; bhakti-yogena—by devotional service; manaḥ—mind; mayi—unto Me; arpitam—fixed; sthiram—fixed.
Translation The supreme occupation of all living entities in this material world is to fix the mind intensely on Me by means of devotional service.
idaḿ bhāgavataṁ nāma purāṇaṁ brahma-sammitam adhiṭaṁ śrāvitaṁ pāṭhaṁ pāramahaṁsyam eva hi
Synonyms idam—this; bhāgavatam—the book dealing in the science of the Supreme Lord; nāma—of the name; purāṇam—the history; brahma-sammitam—approved as the essence of the Vedas; adhiṭam—studied; śrāvitam—heard; pāṭham—recitation; pāramahaṁsyam—transcendental; eva—certainly; hi—indeed. Translation This Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the literary incarnation of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa and is therefore nondifferent from Him. It should be worshiped as respectfully as we worship the Lord. Thereby we can have the same benefit as Arjuna had by the personal association with the Lord, and we can have the benefit of hearing the Lord’s messages directly.
kṛṣṇe sva-dhāmopagate dharma-jñānādibhiḥ saha kalau naṣṭa-dṛśām eṣa purāṇārko ’dhunoditaḥ
Synonyms kṛṣṇe—Lord Kṛṣṇa;
Translation This Bhāgavata Purāṇa is as brilliant as the sun, and it has arisen just after the departure of Lord Kṛṣṇa to His own abode, accompanied by religion, knowledge, etc. Persons who have lost their vision due to the dense darkness of ignorance in the age of Kali shall get light from this Purāṇa.
